Ok, as you know I am not the biggest expert on fashion but I do have an interest in it and am often looking at upcoming trends. This spring, we’re seeing a few interesting trends, many which I may not adopt like the trends I loved in the fall.
Military Trend
The military look including jackets and t-shirts is really in. I’ve even seen models on the runway with holes in the t-shirts. I’m seeing army designer t-shirts paired up with tight shiny black leggings/pants this year. Stay clear of the designer shops for trends. Check out your local Army Surplus store for a nice green t-shirt and pair it up with a pair of black leggings and a blazer. Below is a military blazer from Forever21.com.

Boyfriend Blazer
This one is back! I haven’t bought one yet as I have yet to spot a good one at the thrift store. I am seeing blazers a bit more fitted though as opposed to them being really loose like last year. Another trend is embellished shoulders, so here is a blazer I found on Forever21.com for $38. (Shoulder Studette Blazer)
Patched & Distressed Denim Jeans
If you are like me and can’t sew or not having any luck at the thrift store., check ebay!
Jumpsuits
I love jumpsuits, especially paired with a big necklace! I saw a really cool one in San Francisco for $15 but couldn’t bring myself to buy it. Now I regret it. I do have a nice 70′s style one that I found for $4 at the thrift store though. Vintage shops would probably have a few of these in stock. It appears that the more tailored look is in and I’ve seen some that look more like bodysuits. Jumpsuits can be made of any material or colour and the pants can even be shorts. Forever 21 has a belted halter jumpsuit for under $30:

Sheer Fabric & Boudoir wear
I am seeing a lot of sheer fabrics and lingerie style clothing that are making their way into spring fashion this year. The message seems to be flowy and feminine but perhaps a little daring too. Not that many of us would wear bras over our blouses (seems to be a runway look!) but if you stick to some sheer and sexy fabric, you can pull off a nice look. Nice bustiers under a blazer or even just a sheer blouse on top! Check this website for some looks and ideas:

Other trends: Animal prints are also still around, not sure they ever left us, the animal just changes

I’ve been seeing leopard again (yikes!). I’m also seeing fringes (mostly on footwear and purses), denim on denim (wearing jean shirts with jeans!! so 80′s!) & bodysuits (I still have a purple velvet one from the early 90′s!) & peeptoe & cork wedges for footwear.
Here is a nice pair of cork floral shoes on sale for $49

Since a lot of fashion just comes back over the years, the thrift store might be your best bet for a lot of good vintage finds. Avoid paying a lot of money for trendy things, they won’t last. They will come back, perhaps in a decade or two but most of us don’t keep clothes around for that long. I’ve seen MANY body suits and denim shirts at the thrift store so you’ll probably do well with those items.
As far as wearing lingerie as outerwear? I am pretty daring so perhaps what I will do is wear a nice bustier or full bra under some funky blazer, not planning on wearing my bra as a top anytime soon even though I do consider myself rather adventurous!
I might do a spring shopping trip at the thrift store next month and if I am feeling daring enough I might post a photo of an outfit/shoes. Please feel free to post any fashion ideas. Would love to hear about makeup trends even though I don’t wear a lot of it!
I think Zebras are the most amazing animal print ever!
