Easy Frugal Lip Balm

I had a creative day yesterday and ended up making soap and some very easy lip balm that turned out quite nicely! I bought some containers from the dollarstore (8 of them) for $1 and had all the other ingredients on hand. These make really great gifts and take minutes to prepare.

Easy Lip Balm (for containers, not tubes)

2 Tbsp Sweet Almond Oil

2 Tbsp Coconut Oil ( I used the organic stuff I cook with)

1 Tbsp melted beeswax (if you are opposed to bee products you can use carnauba wax)

2 Vitamin E capsules

8 drops Peppermint or Sweet Orange Essential Oil

Melt everything (aside from Vitamin E) in the microwave on medium heat for a minute, take out after every minute and stir, you don’t want it to get too hot. Once *just* melted, stir in the vitamin E and essential oils and pour into small containers.  This didn’t take long to harden as the oil wasn’t too hot. I made some labels on my laser printer and covered the labels with a piece of tape to prevent wear and tear.

*If you want to use lip balm tubes instead of containers, add more beeswax, probably 50% more or so as you want a harder consistency.

Other container ideas: Empty film canisters (go to walmart to get them, they have tons to give away), pill boxes or containers, contact lens cases (one of each flavour in each compartment)

One Response to Easy Frugal Lip Balm

  1. Just FYI- you wouldn’t want to use empty film canisters for storage of any body product, these may contain harmful chemicals that will transfer through your skin and could be highly dangerous to your health.
