Saving on Travel with Rideshares / CarPooling

As I mentioned in a previous post, my partner and I are driving 1200km to catch a flight to Europe. Sadly, it’s cheaper for us to do this than to actually purchase a flight from where we live. Gotta love economics; supply and demand. Sometimes, I don’t think anyone ever leaves this city , as several airlines seem to have the monopoly on various destinations. Pretty sad isn’t it?
With gas prices rising again (sigh), we decided that it would be best to share the rest of our vehicle with a few passengers looking for a ride and to share gas costs. If we can get two people to tag along, our gas will be paid for and this money can be used for our spending! woohoo!
Here are some places you can post rideshares:
Couchsurfing.com: You can join various rideshare groups from around the world.
Kijiji.ca or .com: Go to Community than click on rideshare to post or look for a ride.
Craigslist.org: Another great resource for rideshares!
Ride For Cents: http://rideforcents.org/ (Europe Based Rideshares)
Hitchhikers.org: http://www.hitchhikers.org/ (Based in the Netherlands)
We are also placing a sign at the Backpackers Hostel.
