You know that famous quote: “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.”? Well my partner found a funnier one: “When life gives you lemons, throw them at people!” I had to laugh. It is simply how the both of us have been feeling lately.

Truth is, the universe decided to give us some very sour lemons. I can’t get into details, but our impending move has been delayed for the third time now. We’re getting tired of it. The reasons are truly legitimate, but that doesn’t mean we’re happy. It does mean that we have to find ways to live here without being miserable.

My partner is lucky, in that he can bury himself in his job which he happens to love, and he created a new project to sink his teeth into. Work will save him. He’s not very social, so that side of things doesn’t need to be tended to.

Me? I had stopped looking for contract work since I was waiting to move, but now that we will likely be here all summer, I needed to find ways to make myself useful. I like earning money and being my own boss. Truth is, I have trouble “working for the man” so-to-speak.

So, I re-opened my Airbnb calendar and I am already getting bookings. Things will start getting busy as of this week! Although I certainly don’t make a killing with Airbnb, the money is good, as during busy season I am almost booked solid. I’d rather make less money independently and be frugal than earn more money for “the man” and feel like a slave. I spent 12 hours or so revamping & updating the zines I made for the tourists, I also designed the water bottle label that I shared with you yesterday. I am throwing myself into tourism mode. Truth is, I LOVE travelers and I am excited for all of this to start-up again this week.

Furthermore, I am organizing an event which I will be discussing on my other blog. It will take roughly 6-8 weeks to get everything together. In fact, I have a meeting today with someone I am hiring for the event! I will likely make a small profit from organizing this, but the focus is on empowering women. I am pretty excited about it. It’s being done frugally too, the poster has already been designed by someone on Fiverr.com. I will be discussing it on my other blog sometime in the next week or two.

Two things have been missing from my life lately: A bit more cash, and some socializing ( I am getting tired of conversing with myself and having one sided discussions with the cat)! With Airbnb and the upcoming event, I will be able to nurture both of those needs. Problem solved.

The rest of the time? You’ll see me in cafes around town cooking up ideas for projects. I do still bring clothing to the consignment shops (which I make some money at), I just received some money related to this blog (YES!) and I am also planning a yard sale late spring.

I think I’ll be ok now.

So when life gives you lemons, maybe throw the first one at a concrete wall to let some steam out. But squeeze the rest, add a little agave and drink up a little sweetness to add a little sunshine in your life.
