Compliments Are Free

Surprisingly, the weather has been beautiful where I currently live. It’s unusual. It’s generally quite cool until the end of July or August or we get a lot of rain. Although I am not a fan of the heat, I am certainly enjoying the beautiful 20-25C sunny weather during the day and the cool nights. I live by the ocean and we always have a nice breeze, even on warmer days.
Apart from enjoying the sunny days, I’ve been doing something lately to make things a little better for myself and other people: Complimenting strangers. It’s free and it makes people feel good.
And guess what happened?
I generally browse through our weekly entertainment newspaper and read the shout outs and complaints people have. It’s fun. While reading them, I came across a description of what happened a few weeks back on one of the first beautiful warm days we had here. The woman I complimented described the scenario in detail. At first, I didn’t think it was possible that someone would be thanking me publicly for something so small. Let’s face it, people don’t often compliment each other on a regular basis. I figured it had to be me, unless someone who looks like me complimented someone with the same coloured dress on that same day. It was a little too specific for it to be someone else, though anything is possible.
Reading this public thank you made me realize that you never really know what is going on with people. Maybe she had had a bad day and the compliment just lifted her spirits, who knows?
Not only are you making someone else’s day a little better by paying them a compliment, but it makes you feel good too. We live in such a negative world right now. Everyone bitches & complains, there is disaster and chaos all around us. Sometimes, doing something free and simple such as paying a compliment to someone will not only make the world a little bit of a better place, but it will help people feel better as well.
PAY A COMPLIMENT TO SOMEONE DAILY, IT’S FREE!
