Save reward points & freebie cards for hard times

Like many frugal folks, I collect airmiles, reward points from various places and collect coffee & meal cards for freebies. It’s amazing how much free stuff can be collected with these cards!

Since I won’t get paid this week and I will only get paid for 3 days next week due to my operation & recovery, I decided that it was time to cash in some of my rewards since my funds will be very low till I am back on a regular work schedule.

Here is what I cashed in:
$25 Gift Card for Gas

$25 Starbucks Card (so I can go on coffee dates with my sweetie or friends)

$20 Grocery Gift Card (I can get A LOT of stuff for that price, ask my friends…lol)

$25 Gift Card for a department store (where I can get household items & food as well)

These cards should cover my entertainment, food and gas for our car for the next few weeks. I still have points left since I am holding on to them in case of more desperate times when my contract ends, which could be soon. yikes.

Make sure you also hold on to free coffee cards until you run out of money or are low on cash. I had one for a free meal the other day which i used since we still don’t have a kitchen (being renovated) and cooking is challenging since I can’t walk right now.

If you do not have points cards, usually credit cards, banks, department stores, grocery stores, drugstores offer reward cards or points…A friend of mine pays her bills with her credit card to get the points, then she transfers the money over from her bank account a few days later. Why didn’t I think of that?
